AIDS Info BBS Database - Description

Here is a treasure house of information about AIDS. It has been building since 1985, always selecting the best but never accumulating the most. Unless you are extremely unusual, you will find that much of your selection work has already been done for you before you begin reading here.

On controversial points, this collection presents both sides of the major issues, clearly labeled so you can avoid them if desired.

Do not look here for conspiratorial theories. Several of them (one ran to 200 pages) were kept, waiting for acknowledgement of authorship and then pitched after a year or so, when no one admitted having written them.

One special section is filled with articles from a major newspaper (donated for non-commercial use), the Wall Street Journal, 1984 to present, which gives a perspective to some of the articles written by those closest to AIDS itself.

There is a library of over 19,300 comments by callers, many of them PWA, about therapies, AIDS politics, and other subjects.

There is an archive of statistics dating from long, long ago. There are of course publications, some dating back to their beginnings, like AIDS Treatment News (the first of them all).

You will not find a great many government publications, because callers have indicated a low opinion of their value. However there are now exhaustive government databases available elsewhere that should fill all such needs. But you will find the latest definition of AIDS, and Surgeon General Koop's historic, startling message to the entire U.S. nation.

A few of the now-enormous list of books on AIDS, some AIDS plays, videos and other media events have been reviewed, and some described without comment.
