    NEW YORK -- The over-the-counter market rallied sharply,
 propelled by good news about several technology and medical-related
 companies.

    Chiron gained 2 1/4 to 50.  Yesterday, this publication reported
 that the National Institutes of Health said it launched the first
 trial of experimental HIV vaccines in children who are infected with
 the human immunodeficiency virus that causes AIDS.  The vaccines are
 made by Chiron's Biocine joint venture with Ciba-Geigy and by
 Genentech and MicroGeneSys.
