    NEW YORK -- Rebounding health care and technology stocks
 propelled the Nasdaq market to a 1.7% gain.  That was before Amgen
 dropped the bomb.

    Elsewhere, Vestar jumped 2 1/8 to 12 1/4.  The San Dimas, Calif.,
 biotech company filed a new drug application for Daunoxome, for the
 treatment of AIDS-related Kaposi's sarcoma.  Vestar said that
 Kaposi's sarcoma is the most common of cancers that afflict AIDS
 patients.
