    A panel of AIDS experts backed away from a U. S. recommendation
 supporting early AZT treatment, saying doctors and patients should
 decide.  The National Institutes of Health earlier had said patients
 with HIV infection should take the drug as soon as the number of
 certain white blood cells is half the normal level.
