The Yokohama Chamber of Commerce said its survey was the first on Japanese corporate attitudes about AIDS. Of the 4,200 respondents, 10% would encourage carriers of the virus to resign and 20% would try to have them confined to a hospital. Firms fear HIV carriers can infect other employees and hurt a company's image. The government is waging an advertising campaign to combat what it characterizes as widespread ignorance in Japan about AIDS and its causes.
