Miles Seeks to License HIV Drug PITTSBURGH -- Miles Inc. said it applied for U. S. Food and Drug Administration approval to license Gamimune-N, an intravenous immunoglobulin for treating certain children infected with the human immunodeficiency virus. A study indicated that the drug reduced the viral, serious bacterial and minor bacterial infections in HIV-infected children. In 1986, the FDA approved the drug for patients suffering from immunesystem disorders stemming from chemotherapy, severe burns, primary immunodeficiency and idiopathic thromocytopenic purpura. Miles is a chemical, health care and imaging unit of Germany's Bayer AG.
