Technology Brief -- Liposome Co.: Merck Accord Is Extended On Tests Related to AIDS Liposome Co., Princeton, N. J., said it extended its agreement with Merck & Co. for testing that could eventually lead to a vaccine against HIV, the virus that causes AIDS. Terms of the collaboration, which began last August, weren't disclosed. Merck is currently testing an antigen in association with a Liposome product, TLC A-60, to be used in an HIV vaccine. The antigen was developed jointly by Merck and Repligen Corp. A spokesman for Merck, based in Rahway, N. J., said that any product to come out of the venture could take considerable time. "This is a very early stage of research," he said. "This is a long way from being anything of commercial significance." Liposome also said work is continuing in its venture with Wyeth-Ayerst Laboratories, a unit of American Home Products Corp., to develop a human influenza vaccine using TLC A-60.
