J.) said it completed a public offering of 3.5 million shares at $10.75 each, raising $37.6 million for use in developing an AIDS treatment. The biotechnology company said the underwriters, Oppenheimer & Co. and Hambrecht & Quist Inc., were granted options to buy 525,000 more shares to cover overallotments, if any. Liposome shares closed yesterday at $11.375, up 12.5 cents, in national over-the-counter trading. Volume was heavy, over 1.7 million shares. Liposome said the funds will be used primarily for development and clinical testing of TLC G-65. The drug, an aminoglycoside, is currently in clinical trials for treating a common infection in people with acquired immune deficiency syndrome. The infection, mycobacterium avium-intracellulare, eventually attacks about 30% to 50% of AIDS patients, Liposome said.
