Subject: Acer Infection Case Story Date: Published: 11/7/91 (32 lines) Source: Wall Street Journal. Copyright Dow Jones & Co. Inc. LEISURE & ARTS: TV: Stars in Wartime; a Celebration of Doris Day ---- By Dorothy Rabinowitz Friday, Nov. 8 Investigative Reports This a sharp overview of the case of the Florida dentist who infected several patients with the HIV virus. In it we meet one of the less publicized of Dr. Acer's now infected former patients, a grandmotherly teacher of English who tells -- with calm and deadly eloquence -- of her determination to spend her days campaigning for mandatory testing. Those who take the other side -- against testing for health care workers -- have a hard row to hoe here, against such combatants. Their position is not much advanced by the advocate from the ACLU, who dithers on about a subject in which the ACLU has always long considered itself expert, i.e., "the greater good of society." This spokeswoman confidently insists, moreover, that the risk of infection is infinitesimal even if blood-to-blood contact has occurred. That should certainly be a comfort to the patients infected by Dr. Acer. 9-10 p.m. EST, on A&E.
