The Food and Drug Administration approved use of the company's recombinant human erythropoietin product in treating anemia in AIDS patients. Some patients develop anemia in conjunction with use of the drug AZT. The Amgen product will be distributed by Johnson & Johnson's Ortho Pharmaceutical unit.
