J. -- Unimed Inc. said it signed a licensing and supply agreement with Keun Wha Pharmaceutical Co. of Seoul, South Korea, for Unimed's Marinol anti-nausea drug for cancer chemotherapy patients. Terms weren't disclosed. Under the agreement, Keun Wha will finance certain clinical work and obtain product registration for Marinol in South Korea. It also will pay Unimed a licensing fee at registration. It said it expects Keun Wha to file the product registration in a few months, with approval expected between one and two years after that. Harold J. Tenoso, Unimed's chairman, said in a statement that the agreement is the company's first Asian alliance for Marinol, its brand of dronabinol. Charles Harrison, Unimed president, said that the drug is approved and currently being used in the U. S., Canada and Israel, and that the company has alliances in Spain and Portugal with companies seeking approval in those markets. Unimed noted that Marinol is undergoing U. It added that the Food and Drug Administration has granted Marinol orphan-drug status for those uses when marketing approval is granted.
