Concerns about disappointing earnings battered technology stocks for a second consecutive day. Even companies posting profits within the range of analyst expectations saw their shares marked down. Newport Pharmaceuticals lost 1/2 to 4 after its Scandinavian licensee withdrew an application for Newport's drug, Isoprinosine, under a Common Market coordinated approval procedure. The licensee, Leo Pharmaceutical Products, was seeking approval of the drug for use in the early stages of AIDS. Separately, Newport posted second-quarter net of two cents a share, compared with a year-ago loss of 18 cents.
