    The National Institutes of Health opened an investigation
 of possible misconduct concerning Robert Gallo and his
 research on AIDS.  Under review are articles describing
 identification of the AIDS virus by Gallo's team, the source
 of that virus, and apparent discrepancies between articles
 and lab notebook entries.
