    DENVER -- Oddly enough, top executives at Cyprus Minerals
 Co., the nation's second-largest copper producer, aren't
 paying too much attention to the big runup in copper prices
 these days.

    Copper prices world-wide have firmed as demand continues
 to outpace production.  World-wide production has dipped, as
 fear of AIDS drove Belgian miners out of Zambia, Chilean
 mines caved in, labor unrest stymied Peruvian production and
 U. S. production has narrowed into only a handful of remaining
 companies.
