Researchers said the blood tests on newborns showed that early last year one of every 476 women giving birth in the state carried the virus that causes the disease. --- A jury in Los Angeles acquitted a mentally ill prostitute who sold blood tainted with the AIDS virus of charges of attempted poisoning. The jurors said the 29-year-old homosexual, described as destitute, lacked the intent required for a conviction under California law.
