    REAGAN AND GORBACHEV ENDED a three-day summit in
 Washington.

    U. S. Catholic bishops acknowledged  that some people don't
 adhere to the church's teachings on human sexuality and
 recommended that they be taught how to use condoms to prevent
 the spread of AIDS. The Roman Catholic Church considers
 condoms unacceptable as a form of birth control.

    Federal health officials said AIDS has contributed to a
 36% increase in tuberculosis cases in New York City between
 1984 and 1986.  The Centers for Disease Control, which
 reported a 2% rise nationwide during the period, warned of
 similar increases in other cities as the AIDS virus spreads.
