   Du Pont Will Buy 7% Stake
   In Biotech Research Labs

   WILMINGTON, Del. -- Du Pont Co. said it agreed to purchase
7% of Biotech Research Laboratories Inc. 's common stock for
$4.5 million.
   Du Pont said it has already purchased 173,913 shares for
$2 million.  Du Pont will buy at least 200,000 more shares for
$2.5 million in July 1985.
   The agreement gives Du Pont options to acquire marketing,
manufacturing and other rights for current and future
products developed by Biotech.  Du Pont may also nominate a
member to Biotech's board of directors and to its scientific
advisory board.
   In June, Du Pont and Biotech were jointly licensed by the
federal government to make and market a test to detect in
human blood products an antibody to the virus that is
suspected of causing acquired immune deficiency syndrome, or
AIDS. 
   Biotech, founded in 1973 and based in Rockville, Md., does
biomedical research and performs related services.
