Subject: Musings on "anal insemination," etc. Date: Mon, 13 Feb 1995 18:53:02 -0500 (110 lines) From: Facpat@aol.com Musings regarding Paul Philpott's "anal insemination" theory. As I said before, I am inclined to agree with Stephen of Vancouver about this one. Not only the fecal part makes no sense, but also the semen in the anus one. Man has been buggering since the beginning of time, so that if semen were poisonous (i.e. caused cancer and AIDS, etc.) we would have ceased to exist as a species thousands or millions of years ago. It doesn't make any sense to me that the very substance that gives us life would also be poisonous. And as for losing zinc, then I would say get buggered and get some zinc! In a walk on Mt. Tamalpais yesterday this all gelled in my mind and I became somewhat angry. To me it is the same old homophobia and male bashing cropping up again. Men are bad, therefore their semen causes cervical cancer, AIDS, etc. I say BULL SHIT! This line of reasoning would ultimately lead to having to get a license to ejaculate in order to have the egg fertilized in vitro so that the woman would not be exposed to the possibility of cervical cancer. I do believe, in accordance with a posting that was not exactly on the subject, but on feminism recently, that men are getting a bum rap in this society. There is no biological reason that men should not live as long as women. It is the stress of living as a male and provider in this society that causes the early demise of most men. Furthermore this has a double impact on gay men. We are so twisted by events that many of us bite the hands of those who try to help us. We hold onto our pathologies with a vengeance and want to die before we are 30. Don't tell me that is not true, because I lived through it and I still see it all around me in the gay world and can quote numerous sources on the subject. Let us stop denying the fact that we use drugs. That is so idiotic. All of us who have lived for decades in the gay world know that they are almost universal. My friend Bryan Coyle was a bartender for years at the End Up, one of San Francisco's most famous gay bars, and he claims he is ill today with "AIDS" because of his over-consumption of drugs. He was good looking, well-built and therefore was given the drugs free. There was a saying going around the gay community that all the good looking ones were dying off. I think that is a valid observation. One of the most famous gay porn stars just died in his early twenties--drugs again. As a community we cannot continue to deny this is going on. Peter, in pointing this out, is not homophobic--he wants us to live, damn it! And now a certain segment of the feminist movement has latched onto the HIV bandwagon and is going to milk it for all its worth. That is easy for them, because they are not dying. The move to make cervical cancer one of the OIs was purely a political move. Women had to have a disease which men do not get. Until we, as men, both gay and straight, start cooperating to get our shit together this mindf**king game is going to continue. Most of the problem-solving, ironically, at this point is coming from straight men and women. I love you all for what you are doing. What gives me hope is that many straight men, some women (Camille Paglia) and many gay men are beginning to understand the social mechanisms involved. Until gay men are treated like human beings they are going to continue to find ways to commit suicide and to confound society in the process. In this case, as I have said before, it really is the mechanism that might bring an end to all our freedoms. (See the most recent issue of SPIN). 1984 is already here! Southerners in the U.S. had not the possibility to be free until they freed the blacks and society will not be free until they liberate gay men. Those like Peter and the rest of The Group are therefore in the forefront of social revolution. I am sending out this message to all of you who are gay (and hopefully all those others who want to help) to begin to analyze the situation, to search your souls and to come out with some answers; and they cannot be that we are victims. We are not. But it takes more that just worrying about what you are going to wear tonight and who your next trick might be. I believe that everyone should make love in anyway they wish, using whatever orifices they please, and as often as they please. The state has no business in getting involved with any of this. We as intelligent people should realize that there is a certain amount of danger involved, even in kissing or holding hands. Danger is all around us. Are we so immature that we cannot face our own demise? Prof. Caton has made that point in his THE AIDS MIRAGE, which I recommend to everyone. In Stinson Beach yesterday I learned that four young men, all of whom I knew, had gone off the road and killed themselves just a few hours before. Stinson Beach is a very special small town in Marin and the whole town was in mourning. I too felt it deeply. But will I stop driving that very dangerous road to get to my favorite mountain and beach? No, because the rewards outweigh the risks. It is the same with lovemaking. We need to be informed of the risks, but then it is up to each one of us to make up his or her own mind. I would even go so far as to say that about drugs. I am for almost the full legalization of drugs. At least it would then all be out in the open and we wouldn't be led into situations like the one we are in where the medical profession becomes part of the problem. We could readily admit what we had done and be detoxified. I have gone through that process many times in my life because I had practitioners who wanted to know my lifestyle and urged me to change if I wanted to live. I did want to live and therefore I am still around at 65. Sorry for this long one again--hope you are not getting bored with this. I enjoy your feedback. Love from San Francisco, Fred Cline P.S.
